My Profile Summary
Please contact me for an up-to-date copy of my resume:
I have recently completed my MSc in Physiotherapy (Pre-Reg) following my undergraduate degree in Sports Science. As a student I completed over 1000 hours of clinical placements across the four key areas of physiotherapy (neurological, muscular skeletal, respiratory and cardiovascular). My practice has spanned the full age range (paediatric to geriatric) and a range of community and hospital settings; including schools, community clinics, spinal injury wards, respiratory wards and professional sport (Rugby League - Super League). Having worked within successful teams in both employment and on placement I understand team dynamics well and how I can fit in and contribute to the successful running of a physio clinic. During my MSK placement I worked as a team of physios who shared case discussions to obtain insights from colleagues; case discussions included cases that they were struggling with regards to progression of treatment or possible diagnosis. During this time we were encouraged to clinically reason ideas of treatments or diagnosis. Communication is a key part of being a physio and a vital component of being successful physio. Communication is something that I have excelled in whilst on placement and in my work outside of my studies. Throughout my practice I took a person-centred approach to all my interactions with patients. Using communication and people skills, I was able to quickly build rapport, so that I could have conversations with patients and discuss their needs, goals and, in reviews, their progress. I used this information, along with my clinical knowledge to identify next steps, collaboratively with patients, ensuring that goals were both realistic and appropriate. My written communication skills have also ensured I have been able to maintain clinic notes using a range of IT systems, at a level that has been required by the placements, as well as contributing to multiagency discussions and making onward referrals. Building relationships and rapport with patients is necessary for physiotherapists to be successful in all areas of work, especially within private practice. Whilst on placements this was an area that was brought up frequently within feedback as a strength of mine. Through building relationships I was able to secure greater engagement from patients which in turn enabled them to achieve their outcomes. I think the skills I have developed on placement will transfer directly and enable me to succeed in private practice. As a working professional I am open to criticism and feedback to help excel and develop my clinical practice. During my placements I adopted the mentality of taking criticism and feedback professionally rather than personally. Changing my mentality during these placements allowed me to get the most out of the six weeks I had on each placement and develop my skills to the fullest. Whilst currently not employed in the industry I am managing to complete online CPD courses and my level 3 massage course lined up in August. I do have the ambition to further develop my practice once employed to include dry needling, shockwave and injection therapy eventually. Away from work I enjoy being active whether that be team sports, going to the gym or going on a hike. I enjoy to chill out and have recently gained a passion for cooking and enjoying trying out new recipes.
