My Profile Summary - Please contact me for an up-to-date copy of my resume:
I am a university graduate with a (Level 9) Masters in Physiotherapy from University of Limerick and (Level 8) Bachelor of Science Sports Rehabilitation and Athletic Therapy from the Institute of Technology Carlow. This background has enabled me to obtain awareness into fields such as patient centered care, management of cardio/respiratory conditions, neurological rehabilitation, neuro-musculoskeletal injury assessment, diagnosis and treatment, nutrition, sports psychology, strength and conditioning, the biomechanics of sport and general population, injury prevention and manual therapy technique.
The Masters in Physiotherapy offered a well rounded education in the areas of Musculoskeletal, Cardio/Respiratory and Neurological physiotherapy with a key focus into multi-disciplinary care, best evidence practice and patient centered care. During this time I gained over 1,000 hours of clinical placement in each key physiotherapy area as mentioned above. Placement sites included a varied caseload ranging from pediatrics to care of the elderly, also ranging from vulnerable (ICU) to fully independent patients. Each placement site included a quality initiative project aimed at using innovation to audit and improve the service provided- one of which projects was presented in St. Luke’s hospital at a recent poster presentation.
Work experience and placement with graduated physiotherapists and athletic therapists has given me awareness into clinical treatment and assessment. Working with football, rugby and hurling teams has led to knowledge into the team environment and dressing room atmosphere.
My student placement sites during my undergraduate course allowed me to gain vast experience into the running and set up of a clinic itself. It allowed me to work with, assess and treat many different types of patients and injuries. This gave me the opportunity to progress patients the whole way through rehabilitation. It also permitted me to work under the Carlow Senior football teams physiotherapist for treatment sessions. While on this placement site I also gained huge experience with pitch-side work especially in the field of rugby.
Throughout third and fourth year of this course included 6 hours a week in a student clinic which allowed me to obtain a vast knowledge in patient management, injury assessment and treatment and developing good patient-therapist relationships.
During my time between completing my undergraduate degree and beginning my masters I worked for rugby, GAA and soccer teams. This work mainly involved pitch side and training session cover.
I am also PHECC Certified in Cardiac First response and Emergency First Response.
I am a fully certified member of ARTI and currently awaiting registration with CORU. I am also certified in basic dry needling.
I am also enthusiastic, motivated and willing to learn.
