Physiotherapist Clinical Specialist Spine  

Spine Excellence


Job Summary
• To hold a key role in the management of the spinal services provided at Spine Excellence.
• To be proactive in development of clinical effectiveness and evidence based practice at Spine Excellence.
• To assist in the clinical development of other staff members
• To actively participate in spinal research.
Accountability
The successful candidate will be required to report to the following;
• The Clinical Directors on a professional and operational basis.


Principle duties of the Post
The successful applicant will be required;

Clinical Practice
• To work with Spinal Consultant Surgeons undertaking a key role in joint clinical assessments and in individual clinical assessments of spinal patients in a private secondary healthcare setting.
• To successfully develop spinal patients care management plan at first point of contact, both independently and in conjunction with Spinal Consultant Surgeons, at Spine Excellence.
• To communicate spinal patients treatment care plans with relevant stakeholders effectively.
• To work in additional service areas in Spine Excellence as required such as, rehabilitating post-operative and non-operative spinal patients, performing comprehensive musculoskeletal assessments and designing bespoke bio psychosocial physiotherapy treatment plans
Professional Practice
• To be a leader in setting clinical standards using evidence based practice.
• To provide advice and support to physiotherapy and multidisciplinary colleagues on clinical issues.

Communication and Teamwork
• To communicate with relevant stakeholders, including patients, family members, multidisciplinary team members and external healthcare professionals, using both verbal and non-verbal communication skills, in a clear, concise and well structured manner.
• To work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Education and Research.
• To keep abreast of new developments in the physiotherapy profession and identify opportunities to improve the service.
• To assist in the ongoing development of in-service training.
• To actively participate in research in spinal conditions and in clinical audits.

Selection Criteria

Mandatory
Candidates must have, the following professional qualifications and experience;

1. Bachelors of Science (Hons) Degree in Physiotherapy / Hold a qualification in Physiotherapy awarded outside of the Republic of Ireland which has been recognised by the Physiotherapists Registration Board at CORU.
2. Be registered on the Physiotherapists Register maintained by the Physiotherapists Registration Board at CORU and with The Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapist.
Annual registration
Candidates must maintain annual registration on Physiotherapists Register maintained by the Physiotherapists Registration Board at CORU and by the by the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP).

Experience
Candidates must hold a minimum of 5 full-time or equivalent years post qualification experience of which 3 full-time or equivalent must be in the required area of Spinal physiotherapy.
Continuing Professional Development
All candidates must demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development in the form of post-graduate qualifications or relevant courses
Candidates must demonstrate past achievement in areas such as, clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, practice development, teaching and research.
All candidates must have the requisite knowledge and ability to complete the mandatory duties at Spine Excellence including adequate use of Information Technology services.
Desirable
• MSc
• Experience in Musculoskeletal out-patients Rehabilitation
• Pilates qualification
