Evidence-based Tai Chi Programs for Health, Falls Prevention and Rehabilitation

Exercise Medicine International

Over the past 45 years, more than 500 trials and 120 systematic reviews have been published on the health benefits of Tai Chi. There is compelling evidence on the efficacy of Tai Chi in improvement of health and quality of life, and prevention, rehabilitation and management of chronic conditions and falls. Based on compelling research evidence, informed by exercise science and guided by exercise prescription principles and safety guidelines, the Clinical Tai Chi for Rehabilitation Program, the Tai Chi for Health and Fall Prevention Program, the Tai Chi for Mental Health and Cognitive Improvement Program, the Tai Chi for Cardiopulmonary Health Program, jointly developed by Exercise Medicine Australia and Exercise Medicine International, are evidence translation programs for improving cardiopulmonary health and fitness, mobility, balance and postural stability; preventing functional decline, disability and fall; managing clinical symptoms; regaining functional abilities and independence; achieving physical and mental health recovery and improving the quality of life. The courses have been accredited/approved by American College of Sports Medicine and other national and international physical and occupational therapy associations for continuing education and professional development for healthcare and exercise professionals. Upon completion of a course, enrolees will receive 15 CEC/CPDs for professional development and certification to teach or practice the programs in healthcare, community or residential settings.
