Detailed course programme:

09.00-9.30 Registration and refreshments

09.30 – 11.00 Hamstring Injuries – the canary in the cage? Matt Wallden/Peter Horobin
Hamstring strain is the most prevalent injury across all sports; the hamstrings, it seems, have a special “vulnerability”. In this presentation, Matt and Peter will shine some light on why this may be, how we can prevent and treat hamstring injury and why hamstring strain is likely to be part of a bigger biomechanical picture. The seeming ‘vulnerability’ may actually be reframed as an early warning system – a canary in a cage – to prevent other common lower limb injuries from developing.

11.00 -11.30 Coffee break

11.30 – 12.30 Managing the stubborn hamstring tendinopathy in runners – Peter Horobin/Matt Wallden
An evidence informed approach to assessing and managing runners with proximal hamstring tendinopathy, covering the rehabilitation process and methods for monitoring an athlete’s recovery. This will be followed by a discussion as to how rehabilitation might differ for an endurance VS sprinting athlete and explore manual therapy and the use of other interventions such as gait retraining.

12.30-1.30 Lunch

1.30-3.00 Nutritional support for the MSK system: a functional approach – Antonia Adeniji
The number of people suffering from musculoskeletal conditions has grown by 25% worldwide over the last ten years and is set to increase. In this presentation, Antonia will discuss the importance of nutritional support for some of the most common conditions that fall into the musculoskeletal category include osteoporosis, back pain and osteoarthritis. Antonia will explore the importance of diet and nutrition in the prevention and management of conditions related to bone, muscle and connective tissue.
