Taught by Jason Seaton a lower limb specialist and Gavin Kelly an upper limb specialist, this course offers the experience and knowledge of 2 recognised clinical specialists to give you a day of there time to really get to grips with MSK therapy

Who is it for?

This course is specifically designed for any who is just starting into the world of musculoskeletal outpatient physiotherapy. Where they are newly qualified, just moving into a new outpatient post from a junior level or has been out of physio for some time and wishes refresh their knowledge and manual handling skill. This is also suitable for any therapist working in musculoskeletal therapy

What will it cover

This course will cover basic assessment techniques looking at both subjective and objective assessment with an emphasis on appropriate handling techniques and the main special test needed for differential diagnosis. The emphasis will largely be practical based. Do brush up your anatomy the week prior to the course !

Areas covered will be:

Spinal: cervical, thoracic, lumbar

Upper limb: shoulder, elbow, wrist & hand

Lower limb: hip, knee, foot & ankle

In each area the main pathologies most commonly associated with them will also be covered.

The hard grafting of the assessment will be covered in the morning with the fun stuff covering basic treatment techniques will be covered in the afternoon.

Basic treatment techniques covered will include:

Neuromuscular retraining

Scapular setting

Joint mobilisations, both accessory and physiological

Soft tissue techniques such as sstm's, active release and frictions

How will it be delivered?
The course is largely practical. In the morning the theory of assessment covered as a who group and the practical assessment covered in 2 separate groups, rotating mid morning. In the afternoon, treatment will be covered which will involve work stations which you will rotate round in, be prepared to do some rehab drills so you understand the exercise therapy component, so wear some shorts and training gear.

2. To be able to form a basic diagnostic picture
3. To be able to perform an effective objective and subjective assessment with appropriate handling skills
4. Have an awareness of the main special tests for each body area
5. Have an understanding of the main pathologies that present in each joint
6. To be able to formulate a treatment plan
7. To be able to apply good manual therapy techniques for your treatment
8. To be able to carry out an effective exercise plan

And overall have fun and enjoy.
