There is compelling evidence on the efficacy of Tai Chi in preventing fall, osteoarthritis, Parkinson disease, rehabilitation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and improving cognitive capacity in older adults. There is also strong evidence of benefit for depression, stroke and cardiac rehabilitation and dementia. Tai Chi is also shown to significantly improve the quality of life for cancer patients, fibromyalgia, hypertension and osteoporosis. Based on compelling research evidence, informed by exercise science and guided by exercise prescription principles and safety guidelines, the Clinical Tai Chi for Rehabilitation Program, the Tai Chi for Health and Fall Prevention Program, the Tai Chi for Mental Health and Cognitive Improvement Program, and the Tai Chi for Cardiopulmonary Health Program are safe and targeted evidence translation programs to improve cardiopulmonary health and fitness, mobility, balance and postural stability; prevent functional decline, disability and fall; manage clinical symptoms; regain functional abilities and independence; achieve physical and mental health recovery and improve the quality of life. The courses have been accredited or supported by American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and other national and international professional governing bodies for continuing education and professional development for physiotherapists and other allied health professionals. Upon completion of a course, course participants will receive 15 CEC/CPDs for professional development and certification to practice/teach the programs in healthcare, community or residential settings.
