Functional Rehabilitation of Shoulder Muscles: evidence & application - online
This self-directed course will be delivered online & you can enrol at any time. Once enrolled, you will have access to the course for 3 months. The course can be accessed: In English at https://professorkarenginn.com/p/functional-rehabilitation-of-shoulder-muscles-evidence-application - cost $USD 350 In French at https://www.agence-ebp.com/elearning-karen-ginn - cost 397 Euro This course is designed to assist clinicians to make contemporary, evidence-based decisions because of improved clinical reasoning. Exercise is the mainstay of conservative treatment for shoulder dysfunction. However, evidence to support the efficacy of specific exercises for different categories of shoulder dysfunction is limited leaving clinicians with the dilemma of how to choose effective, efficient exercises for their patients with shoulder dysfunction. The course will explore recent research to inform your clinical reasoning process so that you have a logical basis to determine specific therapeutic exercises for each of your patients with shoulder pain. It will begin by revisiting & updating the detailed functional anatomy of the shoulder region to provide you with the anatomical basis to explain the presenting shoulder symptoms. By then applying this anatomical knowledge to the clinical assessment of the shoulder the course is designed to provide you with a logical, evidence-based clinical reasoning process to determine the most appropriate exercise strategy for each patient & to be able to progress these exercises in a functionally appropriate manner. The course concludes with a case study of a patient with a typical shoulder pain problem to help you apply the knowledge & skills gained to the clinical situation. Specifically, at the end of this course participants will be able to: 1) critically evaluate the contribution of the current diagnostic classification system, imaging procedures & special orthopaedic tests in directing effective treatment for shoulder dysfunction 2) critically evaluate the evidence in support of surgery & active (exercises) & passive conservative treatment for shoulder pain 3) critically evaluate the functional anatomy of the normal shoulder joint in particular the: • relative contribution of active & passive stabilising structures • specific mechanisms whereby rotator cuff (RC) muscles contribute to shoulder joint movement & stability • role of the scapula & axioscapular muscles in optimising shoulder joint & shoulder muscle function • multiple roles muscles perform, & the level of muscle coordination required, in normal shoulder function 4) critically evaluate commonly used methods of assessing & treating shoulder muscle dysfunction 5) incorporate recent evidence & functional anatomical principles into the clinical reasoning process to aid in: • understanding the anatomical basis for the presenting shoulder symptoms • determining the most appropriate exercise rehabilitation strategy • progressing therapeutic exercises in a functionally appropriate manner 6) investigate alternative methods of assessing & restoring shoulder function that better reflect normal functional anatomy The first part of this course consists of 6 "Evidence" videos totalling. These videos explore recent research evidence regarding the mechanisms whereby shoulder muscles perform their mover & stabiliser roles & critically evaluate current clinical assessment of the shoulder. The second part consists of 8 "Application" videos. These videos aim to apply the research presented in the "Evidence" videos to the assessment & treatment of shoulder dysfunction. Shoulder muscle function is analysed during active movements & isometric tests to determine the specific shoulder muscle deficits contributing to the presenting symptoms & during various shoulder exercises. The final video presents a case study of a typical shoulder pain problem. There are also 3 quizzes to enable you to check your knowledge.
