Hi nicola,

In autonomous practice, you can include private home treatment sessions for patients. State what cases you have handled and then go from there....

goodluck!!!

Re: Competency 10.5

Hi,
autonomous practice also means that you can work independently from a medical presciber.
Apparently, in some countries, Physio is a medical assistant position, where Physios can only work on a prescription from a doctor.
The Board used to have a registration competency booklet, either online or they send it out, which gives you an idea about examples for the evidence section.
Good luck,
Fyzzio

Re: Competency 10.5

Hi, I am a NZ trained physiotherapist working in the UK and although I haven't had to go through registration as an overseas trained physio, I am familiar with the NZ competencies.
For 10.5 if you open the Registration competencies pdf from the NZ board website it does have 5 indicators listed for aspects to show autonomous practice. Its not so much about the location in which you've practiced but whether you have been able to make independent decisions on practice (i.e. you have not been prescribed what to do by a medical practitioner). As explained in the application form NZ physio's take direct referrals from patients, so you need to demonstrate that you justify your own actions and respond and communicate appropriately to consumer needs.
For 10.1 NZ laws etc. I would assume the main ones referred to (and that directly affect physiotherapists in NZ) are the NZ Public Health and Disability Act (governs the structure and delivery of healthcare in NZ) and the Health Practitioners Competency assurance act (governs the way you practice and show your on-going compentency - this is certainly the main one). These can be found on the NZ Ministry of Health website. They can be a bit tricky to find, but hopefully the following link works. Acts and Regulations

Good luck with your registration.

Re: Competency 10.5

Forgot to say, 10.2 is about health promotion and recognising the needs of a community (community might be the locality where you live, or a particular group of people with similar problems, or patients within your area of work). Hopefully this is something you would have covered in your physiotherapy training. Examples could be a group exercise programme set up (e.g. back pain class etc.); changing your referral procedures to allow easier access to physiotherapy; having posters around the waiting room advertising different services or health information.
