Canadian Physiotherapist to get registration in Western Australia

I recently found out that physiotherapists graduated in certain universities in 2000 to 2007 in Canada can directly register with Physio Board in Western Australia with no exam.

I was overseas-trained but passed the credentialling process which said 'my qualification is the same as the Canadian one' and eventually I was eligible to undergo the national exam and I passed. Currently, I am working as a physiotherapist in Canada.

Anyone knows if I would be qualified to directly register in WA? Any successful applicant in Aus with similar background like mine?

Pico

Re: Canadian Physiotherapist to get registration in Western Australia

According to the list of universities in Canada from the Physio Board of WA, actually, those are the universities which provide physiotherapy programmes. Theoretically, all physio graduates in Canada from 2000 to 2007 can directly register in WA.

My qualification was assessed and was quoted as 'the same' as Canadian graduates. I am just afraid that if I ask the board, they will just reply me 'No'. Therefore, I wonder if there are any successful cases in Aus with similar background as mine.

Hi Pico :

I think you are right , you just need to read and collect much information , here you are what is in Australia Western :

Quote:
Canada
A physiotherapy qualification accredited by the Accreditation Council for Canadian Physiotherapy Academic Programs between 1 April 2000 and 23 February 2007 is prescribed as a qualification for registration as a physiotherapist
Or you can read each Board policy of Austrialian States .

Australian Physiotherapists Registration Boards —

However , I think you need to to contact the Australian Physiotherapy Council the competent Austhority for assessing overseas physiotherapists in Australia .

cheers

Re: Canadian Physiotherapist to get registration in Western Australia

Thanks, Emad.

I was also advised by a job agency in Aus to contact the Board directly first, rather than just sending out the application. The agency said they don't have first hand experience of direct registration for applicants like me.

I am going to feel very unfair if the Board replys me I am not elligible for that type of registration, because Canadian graduates may register in WA even if they fail the national exam in Canada.

Anyway, I may try to go through NZ registration to get the Aus registration if the WA Board rejects me.

Re: Canadian Physiotherapist to get registration in Western Australia

Hi again Pico :
From where did you gain your undergraduate qualification ?
Yes , you are right NZ route is a another indirect route to Australia , however you need to collect information and contact them , delay is not good because of laws changes and agreements .
I think if you gain your undergraduate study from a native English country and 4 years course like from UK , Ireland , USA even South Africa everything will be okay .

cheers
