Problems with Calf Muscle
Hello,
I am facing a very nagging pain in my calf muscle ... This occurs when i try running. At the start of my workout session, I usually end up limping. Its not painful when i touch my calf muscles and there doesn't seem to be any form of swelling or discoloration either. I have been to doctors and they prescribed vitamin and calcium tablets , none of which has worked. I have not been doing any running activity for the past 3 weeks and this has been very frustrating for me. A brief description of my activity ( just in case) I do walk semi briskly for 3 rounds of the stadium before i start jogging. I jog/run at 13-14 kmph( 8-8.5mhp) for about 30 mins. I then walk for another 3 rounds of the stadium. I have been following this level of activity for the past 5-6 years. Besides few days here and there this is usually a 7 day activity. I am 32 years old, well built and weigh in 88kgs. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

Re: Problems with Calf Muscle
How long ago did these symptoms begin? It will be very difficult to determine the source of the problem without some hands on work, can you describe the exact location of the pain, what increases it and what decreases it?
About a month ago ... I had taken a 2 month break from running. I started off in the first week of March and about 2 weeks into march i started developing this pain. I reduced the Running from 7 kms to 5 kms. I even started to walk a round in between running 12 rounds, but nothing helped. I went to an orthopeditian and he told that the injury should be gone within a week and asked me to reduce my workout by 50% for the week. I just stopped working out since then, because i didnt' want to run with an Injury. I did run few times in between to test my recovery. Though I could make a slight improvement, the Injury hasn't disappeared so far. I still get the pain when I exert pressure on my calf muscles. The pain is on the bottom end of my Calf muscle, behind the Shin bone. Running is the only activity that produces the pain. I think its mostly because there is pressure exerted on the calf muscles when I run. I don't suppose this injury has to do anything with Shin splints right ? Because I did suffer from Shin splints earlier. I still get it from time to time. My shin bone and the muscles around it become rigid when i work out without proper warmup. Thanks for replying ![]() |
