Smile sesamoid problem

a mate of mine started playing soccer at the start of the season. half way, she experienced pain near her big toe. turns out that she has a sesamoid. it's not fractured as the x-rays did not show however, we did recommend a doughnut and orthotics. dougnut wasn't doing much so we gave her an orthotic. after 3 weeks, the symptoms remained the same and therefore i recommended the 'boot'. it has been almost 3 weeks now and my mate tells me it's not getting better. i'm not sure if it shoud be non weight bearing and should she use low frequency ultrasound to help the healing process. she's gone to an orthopedic surgeon but says it's not surgery type. pls help.
