Hamstring Tendon friction on fibula head

Hello,

I have been struggling for some time with what was prescribed as ITBS. It's been about 4 months and I am now able to run with no problems, swim a little and also cycle. (I am a road race cyclist).

The problem I have now seems to be tight hamstrings, I think in particular the semimembranosus is strained also, but my main concern is that the tendon of the outer hamstring (biceps femoris I think) is rubbing on the head of the tibula and can be seen flicking as I come over the top on pedal stroke on the bike.

Can anyone recommend any ideas for treatment (I am seeing a physio who has prescribed some stretching and what not but would like a second opinion).

I would really appreciate any advice as I am bordering on going crazy.

Thanks all,
Nick

If the problem is a subluxing biceps femoris tendon you may wish to visit:-http://ajs.sagepub.com/cgi/reprint/29/1/93.pdf

Thanks for the Reply Silvine. I read the article with interest. My problem does seem to be improving and hoping that a subluxing biceps femoris tendon is not the problem, but for sure the fibula head on the injured side is more pronounced, although maybe this is is only an illusion due to the injury?

My physio believes it is caused by scar tissue and has given me a light massage technique to do on the tendon, this seems to help as does getting back on the bike and riding, it is slow in the extreme to get better though! The tendon itself does feel "plump" compared to the unaffected side, and also perhaps bumpy.

Fingers crossed, but again thanks for your response.

Nick
