Overactive hamstrings

Any techniques I could use to reduce hamstring activity in a rugby player who has repeated hamstring strains. Am working on improving his core stability and posture (increased lumbar lordosis and ant tilted pelvis++) but he can't isolate gluts. Would muscle energy techniques help?

re: Overactive hamstrings

What are you attempting to improve when you say his hams keep cutting in. Hip extension without hamstring activation ie. better glut stability? Is there any discrepance in hip joint ROM between right and left, if so this might explain his recurrent hammy strains
