re: Rugby

Hi,
I play Rugby each Saturday during the winter months. In the past 2 years, I have been getting migraines about 20 minutes after the games. I have never had a migraine at any other time other than after a game of rugby. I was wandering if a migraine could be brought on by muscle stress. Because I play in the front row, There is a lot of stress placed on my neck. Could this be the cause or should I be investigating other things that could be causing these migraines. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It is hard to diagnose a problem without actually seeing someone. You better have it checked out by a physio near you, right after the game for example. It could be muscular stress but it also could be a joint problem.
Good luck!

re: Rugby

You might also investigate the possibility of exercise induced headache, a relatively common form of headache which has (to my knowledge) no proven aetiology. I understand that hydration is implicated as is overheating, but neither is proven.
Cheers,
Rod

I'm not sure - but as far as I know, most headaches are possibly caused by dehydration. A good tip to tell whether you are hydrated enough before a game is the colour of your urine - it should be clear ! Remember also to rehydrate asap after the game, preferably before the alcohol drinking comences!
