Do physios know of Nordic Walking
Hi,
I have been working in Australia for two years now - promoting the activity of Nordic Walking. I have noticed that physiotherapists are very well respected. In Europe Nordic Walking is the biggest fitness activity ever. In Australia a lot of people laugh at "walking with poles". I would just love to get more physios involved usiong Nordic Walking as a rehabilitation program. It is an excellent tool. If you are interested please visit www.poleattraction.com.au or contact me directly. I'm looking forward to sharing the benefits of Nordic Walking with you. All the best |

Re: Do physios know of Nordic Walking
yes, patrick,
I do know about nordic walking, ( its been a bit trendy for the last few years in holland- especially for the not so young any more.) It looks very similar to what people have been doing for ever, especially when walking in the hills- using one or more walking sticks. It is however one of the many ideas you can tell a patient about to do ( as in physical activity) in his spare time. Is especially good for the elderly. In my opinion, you do not have to visit a physiotherapist to learn how to "nordic walk". I am not surprised that you have had many people laughing at you. The dutch will still laugh at people walking around like this especially if its in town...... on a track and in the outdoors, it is a different matter. The Australian´s are one of the biggest sportloving countries in the world and nordic walking does look a bit weird..... I must say I find it amusing to look at....as well. But it does work for some people and is a good option for some. kind regards esther |

Re: Do physios know of Nordic Walking
Hi Patrick - Keep up the good work in Australia! Nordic Walking is the best!
More physios are discovering Nordic Walking everyday - typically from clients that have outstanding testimonies regarding their success walking with Nordic Walking Poles. Using the correct length poles has hugely helped folks with shin splints, runner's knee, other knee issues, hip issues, back issues (including metal rods) cancer recovery and stroke recovery. For safety reasons we only recommend durable one-piece poles custom fit to each individual's height. We do NOT recommend twist-locking adjustable/telescoping/collapsible poles for folks with balance issues - including MS, Parkinson’s and Neuropathy. Perfect length poles help us to automatically walk with a super straight back - better walking posture is biomechanically a good thing. This improved walking posture when combined with the unique 4-Wheel-Drive type action of walking with poles radically reduces the stress to the shins, knees, hips and back. Nordic Walking is low impact and yet provides a highly effective workout - burning more calories and working more muscle groups than regular walking. Once we know how tall an individual is we select the perfect length poles and back it up with a Perfect Length Guarantee.
