Physio Assistant job

Hello, I have jus passed a Bsc in Sports Therapy. I hope I dont sound silly asking this question but I have a job interview to be a physio assistant. At the interview I have to demonstrate how I would show a mother how to pick up a car seat with baby in it and carry it. As I did sports therapy I didnt encounter car seats and am worried Im not going to pass this test. Do you pick it up in the normal way you would a box and carry it symetrically. I hope somebody can help I did have a look on the web but didnt find any advice. Thank you x

I was a Physio Assistant before starting my Physio degree. Patients recovering from spinal injuries/pain would often ask about picking up objects etc......They were advised to get as close to the object as possible, test its weight by tilting it before picking up, ensure it was well balanced, weight equally distributed, and when lifting keep a straight back and use the power of your quads to lift, when object is lifted avoid too much twisting movements when standing static.......You probably new most of this . The fact that is is a child car seat is no different from any other object, maybe they want you to point out during pregnancy a mother may have put their lumbar spine through a lot of stress, and needs to avoid sudden jarring movements, and that a car seat is an awkward shape......

i am looking to change career path dramatically and want to know how i go about starting as an Physio Assistant? i have GCSE's and have a BTEC ND in Sports Science, have you any ideas?

I started my A levels then applied for the assistant job. I had very little experience of working in a health care environment but because I expressed my desire to start my physio degree ( I was doing 2 science A levels which they were happy about) I got the job. Do you want the job in order to get into Physiotherapy? since then I also managed to get summer work as an assistant this year before I started my clinical placement. They want 5 GCSEs A-C, and normally ask for an nvq level 2 or equivalent, you also must be willing to work in all areas. I didnt get the car seat question but got asked lots about patient notes (legal reasons are why we sign, date, document everything) and how I would overcome problems mainly with communication.

Have you looked at Physio assistant jobs and what they entail?

I am new to this message board and am enquiring on behalf of my granddaughter who has studied hard to become a sports physio without success in getting a job since she finished her college course. She gained 10 GCSE passes at her school and studied a sports physio qualification at college for 2 years and passed with distinction but she cannot get a job anywhere. Gyms appear not to be hiring at the moment and all avenues appear to be closed off to her. A friend of mine who was a qualified nurse suggested she apply to become an assistant physiotherapist on the clinical side but my granddaughter has no idea where these jobs are advertised.

Anyone got any helpful suggestions ?

Hi I have just finished my degree Bsc Sports Therapy (Hons) which I gained a 2:1 in I am struggling to find any work or experience due to not being a member of BASRAT or been HPC registered.
I am very keen to get some hands on experience and dont want to let my degree go to waste.....However
I am considering doing a MSc in Occupational Therapy or nursing mainly because I would like to work for the NHS as a physiotherapist but at the moment the next years intake for MSc is full. I am not sure if this is the way I should be thinking although I need some money and a job due to the student lifestyle for 3 years.

I do on the other hand have an interview at the end of the month for an orthotics assistant which entails a practical exam...Which I have no idea what may be included....? I would much appreciate any advise/ideas!!!

I did my BSc in sports therapy 3 years back. I am now working as a physiotherapist in a private hospital. I have also worked as an assistant physiotherapist. I had also been asked similar questions in the interview. Luckily i cleared the interview. I think you can use some "interview prospective physiotherapy guides" available in the market.
