Physiotherapy Competency Examination in Canada

hello guys!

Im new to this site and Im going to take the written exam this coming november, im from vancouver, is there any of you here who knows where to find some practice questions. I took the exam last july but unfortunately I failed, I guess it took me by surprise because the questions are very vague and the answers are nowhere to be found (some says it logical--i agree). Hi All,

I am a physio working in London and I am currently going through the process of obtaining accreditation to sit for the PCE. I am hoping to sit in July. From what I am gathering here, very little is known about the exam unless one has done it before. It seems unnecessarily difficult to prepare for.

However, I am open to any advice that anyone can give. The huge reading list given by the Alliance is close to useless for preparing for an exam; i.e read all the physio books known to humankind. Any guides on 3 or 4 core texts?

What are the exams trying to test? Basic knowledge? differential diagnoses? I'm just trying to get a steer on how to study.

Are there any physios who have cyber study groups?

For you wanting to pass the theoretical, please look up my previous posts.

NOT all the books on the Alliance list are useful.

I mentioned what was most important.

Now I am looking into Scott M. Giles PTEXAM, to see how useful it would be for the practial.

Will tell you my opinion next week.

from now i have only 3 mnths 2 study and prepare 4 the PCE exz....i m very worried ....dont knw vat 2 do.....could u please tell me vat kind of preparation i should do.....sticking to these two books wud be sufficient......and is there any canadian sample papers that i shud do......i really have no time.......ur response wud be muchly appreciated

Yeah, I found that for the written the two books were enough, but you got to know Colby and Kisner really by heart.

There are some information required about modalities US, Electro, but the ones in the Guide are enough.

Wikipedia, as I said, for brachial, lumbar, sacral plexus and every muscle and action that they involve.

Also, know the convex-concave rule for joints.

Ethics: respect patient's wishes, do not disclose therapy but with patient's permission, there is a book on ethics by Hebert, that you could read, but it is loss of time.

Colby and Kisner, again.

So, where are you located? In TO maybe?

thanx for the reply .......i m in Vancouver........can u give me some idea which electrical mpodalities to study for.......coz i guess only few r in practice........will start 2 study hard now.....thanx a lot again.

Hi Nemo,

Look in the Study Guide by Bates. That should be enough for the theoretical. Know contraindications and side effects.

In my opinion and in the opinion of several other people I talked to, the questions on the Alliance website are at a lower level of difficulty than those at the actual exam.

Know your anatomy really well, wikipedia can be of great help.

Forget for now (if it is the written) about Magee, it is far too detailed. The tests in the Study Guide were enough for me. But again, I cannot say how important it is to know everything in Colby and Kisner.

Hi! I am writing my PCE in March. Has any of you tried the practice questions from NPTE Review&Study Guide? I don't seem to get through them and I'm wondering if the Canadian exam is similar to those. Do they ask stuff like interpreting blood tests or knowing drug side effects?
