Danny - biceps curl and pulling in my neck

Hey Guys,

I'm new to this area-seems very good.

Recently I started lifting dumbbells(bicep curl)15 reps-3 sets each, very basic stuff.I am a 25 yo male beginner. When I lift the weight with my right hand I get a pulling sensation down my right neck area but strangely not a thing with the left.

The pain has a pulled muscle sensation altough usually subsides after a few hours.I know this is not normal or good for me.It is not a post-workout sensation.Again very basic stuff.

The weights are 5kg,this is such a light weight and this is whats causing me worry.
Can anybody tell what this is and how to avoid it?
Should I warm up beforehand?-I simply do a quick neck stretch.

Thanks

Unfortunately this is not a muscle problem per se, it is in fact an issue with nerve tension, and that is what you are experiencing within the neck,

It sounds as if your workout is causing a compression/tension on the nerve in the neck. This is likely a possibility because the nerves from the neck are the ones that lead into and supply the arm. This could easily be tested with Specific Physiotherapy Tests.

Before going off making your own programme, I would attempt to find out exactly which nerve is causing the problem.
Thanks
This sounds like a nerve root problem, needs nerve root tests, and then specific program for it. Additionally modify your training in the meantime,
