Spina Bifida Occulta - Back Exercises

Hi, having always felt my lower back was a bit weak and easily fatigued I found out, when pregnant 2 years ago, that I have Spina Bifida Occulta - I am looking for exercises that I can do now to help avoid related back probs developing as I get older - am in mid-thirties and current exercise limited to dog walking and swimming once a week, any advice on exercise most effective and\or best avoided appreciated, thanks!
