the How and When of paediatric physiotherapy
Hello
I'm considering applying to a physiotherapy program in Ontario. But after looking at the various programs offered at the University of Toronto and McMaster, Queens etc. it seems very much geared towards musculoskeletal physiotherapy. How/when do you get into the specifics about paediatric physiotherapy? Thanks in advance |

Re: the How and When of paediatric physiotherapy
Paeds is rarely covered much as undergraduates (at least in the UK) - you learn all the basics and normally specalise in paeds after you graduate.

Re: the How and When of paediatric physiotherapy
I am a graduate from the University of Toronto. Although there is not a specific unit on paediatrics specifically, the speakers and lectures within the physiotherapy program try to incorporate paeds in the curriculum. Like all programs, U of T is not truly designed to train specialized Physiotherapist, however they do provide a broad understanding on the spectrum. I cannot speak for other universities in Ontario. I agree with the previous post. Decide on a university and pick up as much as you can in classes. The best learning, at least in my case is getting your hands wet during internships by gaining hand on experience.
Hope this helps Mark |

Re: the How and When of paediatric physiotherapy
I am a graduate of the McMaster Physiotherapy Program and as far as I know, there are no graduate schools in Canada that have a specialization program in Paediatrics. However, you do get trained in paediatrics during the program itself. As the previous writer noted, the only way you can become specialized in paediatrics is by gaining experience in the field. Also, there are numerous courses during the year that you can choose to take. Hope this helps.
