Taping technique for Metatarsus Adductus

Hi everyone,
I have a big number of patients presenting with metatarsus adductus between 18 months and 3 years that were not treated as infants or have a relapse. I find they do not tolerate stretching or tickles (eversion stimulation) well at this age and wedging the shoes at the hallux does not always work. I have experimented with taping the foot across limiting the metatarsals from adducting. It seems to work for 60-70% of my patients. Has anyone else used this and is there any articles I should be reading?
Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

Re: Taping technique for Metatarsus Adductus

hi, never tryed it in children. but in adolecence we use it sometimes for hallux valgus treatment in early stage. that works fine as passive treatment.
but also try active stabilisation by exercising the foot muscles and calf as well. posture is important, too.
but taping is an idea, sorry no ideas about literature.
cheers

Well I have tried it in a couple of paed's & it works. whether there is literature on it or not I use it frequently on the younger ones also as long as they are not allergic to it.
