Smile Legg-Calvé-Perthes syndrome

Hi Physios,

Please let me know if a child with Wikipedia reference-linkLegg-Calvé-Perthes syndrome will benefit from Physiotherapy? If yes, what kind of PT interventions will be beneficial?

Thanks.

Re: Legg -calve-perthes Disease

Hi I have come across two perthes disease patients. one is around 10 years age and other is 4 years. Orthopaedician adviced them to not bear weight for a year or two (???!!!!). It is impossible for them to be not to put weight for that much time. So I have decided to give a weight reliving KAFO (Ischial weight bearing) for them and went ahead. I have to yet see the present Xrays to see any change in the growth of the head of femur.
But after 3 months I found the muscle of that side wasted for the 1st patient. Now I am giving him non weight bearing resisted exercises to regain the wasting.
Once I see the result of growth I will reply you

Cheers
Arun

Re: Legg-Calvé-Perthes syndrome

Hello!! I'm PT in my country Venezuela. I just had a patient with Legg-Calevé_Perthes syndrome, he was 8 years old. He improved his muscular force and the amplitude to articulate, but his weight no, this is the bad problem. It was in therapy by 3 months and now his X-R showed his hip better. But you know that hard one up to 2 years.
Bye,
Soand

Re: Legg-Calvé-Perthes syndrome

why don use hydrotherapy ( excercise under water) as you can activate the muscle without weight bearing in the joint.
