Hi all,

I have a patient who has been diagnosed with Isaac's syndrome.

I have no have idea what it is.

I have seen the page at NINDS.nih.gov found on Google.

Re: Isaac-Mertens Syndrome

Never seen anyone with it or heard of it before, but my trusty Merck Manual (17th Edn) describes it as:

A disorder of neuromuscular transmission.

Unknown cause, predominantly limb symptoms. Affects peripheral nerves.
Symptoms include: muscle twitching, arm & leg spasms, intermittent cramps, increased sweating and pseudomyotonia (impired muscle relaxation after a strong contraction but without true EMG changes).

Symptom relief is via Carbamazepine or phenytoin.

No info on physical treatment modalities or prognosis, unfortunately.
hope this helps a wee bit
Mike

Thanks Mike,

Didn't expect much of a response to be honest.

Appreciate your efforts.

Cheers

Re: Isaac-Mertens Syndrome

Dear Antony
Thanks so much for your kind words and understanding
Up until 6 months ago I was fit and active and now I'm greatly debilitated by this syndrome
My comments were made out of sheer frustration, continuing pain and anxiety
Accordingly, I apologise for any hurt I may have caused you or your colleagues
I'm extremely worried that I will not be able to walk my daughter down the isle in October

I do understand the research you have explained to me in your post and appreciate your efforts
but I am desperate for any further help I can get and I trust you will see me on a professional basis should the need arise
Regards
Rick
