night time positioning
Does anyone use night time positioning of adult patients with long term neurological problems which lead to altered muscle tone and therefore over time altered body postures such as wind sweeping etc. If you do use them what research do you base this use on, who provides the equipment and do you feel it is worthwhile?
I work with adults with learning disabilities and currently cannot obtain funding for such equipment but feel it should be very beneficial for people if they are carefully assessed and the people who care for them are trained and enthusiastic in using the equipment. Any thoughts? |

it very much depends on the patient - thing like symmetrisleep are good if someone can tolerate it, but it can get very warm and take a bit of 'weaning' into it.
You have to know what you are tryng to achieve before even looking at specialist systems. You can rig up most postures with pillows, wedges and rolls first before resulting to what is a very expensive piece of kit. I would be a bit skeptical of the research that come out of the companies themselves but looking and neurophysiology you could answer your own questions. |
