Alfredson exercises & anterior compartement pain

I’ve just finished the 1st yr of my physio degree – so there’s loads I don’t know/understand yet!

I’ve been having pain in the anterior compartment of both legs (i.e. the dorsiflexors) when I walk quickly, especially up an incline. The physio I went to see gave me Alfredson exercises (eccentric exercise of the plantarflexors). I’ve been doing them & I think they’re helping, though I’m not sure.

My question is:

What’s the rationale behind using these exercises for anterior compartment pain? I’ve looked at various articles (see attchments) but they only refer to using them for Achilles Tendonopathy & I can’t ask my physio because she’s on holiday for a few weeks.

Any ideas or pointers to relevant material, anyone?

Oh yes, I've tried all those sources (I did a science degree a few years ago, so I'm used to using those), but I've not found anything yet.
