partial TA rupture

I have a pt at the moment who was diagnosed with a partial TA rupture (by palpation only, no scan!!) 6 weeks ago. He was put into a PF cast for the 6 weeks which has now been removed. Much to my dismay the specialist has requested complete NWB on that leg for at least another 4 weeks citing "new research from the states" that shows decreased rate of re-rupture with this protocol. This seems an overly excessive amount of time as I would normally be PWB progressing to FWB by now and have not been able to find any research on the net supporting this. Has anyone else heard of research along this line or is this as I suspect very outdated advice?

Cheers
