Position Title: Senior Physiotherapist Grade 3/ Deputy Service Manager Physiotherapist - Grade 3 Award: 10 - Public Hospital Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists (State) Award Vaccination Category: A Reports To: Physiotherapy Service Manager Together With: All other Physiotherapy positions Direct Reports: Physiotherapist Grade 2 Physiotherapy Grade 1 Physiotherapy assistants PURPOSE OF POSITION To be responsible for the management and the provision of physiotherapy services as to allow the Physiotherapy Department to execute its duties and activities in an efficient manner. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 1. Leadership and Management Be an active participant in Departmental business planning sessions. Be an active participant in senior and team meetings Coordinate all services within the Acute Inpatients Team ensuring excellent service delivery. Assist with the organisation of the department, which may involve being available to act in the physiotherapy Head of Department role. To assist the Head of Physiotherapy Department in the administrative management of the department including doing staff performance management. Provide regular clinical supervision for staff managed by this senior position and help them achieve their professional goals. Undertake performance management sessions with staff working in your clinical area. Assist with the regular review and development of policies and protocols to be used within the department. Carry clinical caseload within the inpatient setting . Be responsible for the management and evaluation of the weekend service, this may involve working at the weekends if required. Perform other duties within the scope of your award as directed by the service manage. 2. Human Resource Management Assist in the review of job descriptions and ensure that they adequately reflect the role of the position. Organise/provide appropriate clinical staffing cover for the acute wards, in consultation with other seniors. 3. Improving Performance and Clinical Risk Management To be involved in the initiation and implementation of Quality Improvement Programs and to record ongoing evaluation of these programmes. Develop and update clinical competencies; ensuring that all staff who work within the inpatient physiotherapy setting have been assessed in these. Resource other clinical experts within your field to assist with your professional development. Ensure that services provided are based on evidence, best practice guidelines and current research. Assist with the management of students within the acute care team setting. Ensure collection of clinical indicators within acute care setting where appropriate and required by physiotherapy manager. 4. Information Management. Ensure accurate patient stats are maintained and data is trended to establish core business within the inpatient team and Responsible for the reporting of statistic to finance department on monthly basis. 5. Safe Practice and Environment Be familiar with Macarthur Health Services policies and procedures. Coordinate and participate in team OH&S activities and comply with the Macarthur Health Service Safety rules. Ensure all staff attended mandatory training. Ensure that Departmental Safe Work Practices are adopted and reviewed annually. Ensure appropriate orientation of all new staff to the physiotherapy clinical area. Ensure that there is appropriate clinical risk management within the inpatient setting. Be an active participant in clinical risk management planning and implementation. CHALLENGES Developing the skills to effectively and appropriately prioritise patients in order to balance caseload and deputy manager's duties. Increase the profile of inpatient physiotherapy within the acute setting by attending relevant meetings, initiating and overseeing quality projects and assisting senior staff to maximise their skills.
