Our conference will explore the important issues for practitioners who deal with patients/clients struggling to remain in or return to work following the onset of disability or injury. The main focus will be on back pain, musculoskeletal disorders and mild to moderate mental health issues.Who is it for?: Health practitioners (Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Nurses, Doctors, Podiatrists etc), Department of Work & Pensions agents, Case Managers, Social Workers, Private and Leisure sector Rehabilitators.The conference will include:· Epidemiology and costs of presenteeism, sickness absence and worklessness.· The important relationship between health and work· International perspectives in vocational rehabilitation· Changing thinking and identifying obstacles to returning to or remaining inwork· Systems, policies & drivers· Vocational rehabilitation: approaches in the clinic, management and practiceSpeakers include:Kim Burton: A clinical and ergonomics consultant, and Director of the Spinal Research Unit at the University of Huddersfield. His current research, supported by both government and industry, is focused on shifting the culture of work and health through novel educational and rehabilitation interventions.Nick Kendall: A health services consultant in the UK who trained as a clinical psychologist and teaches occupational and aviation medicine in Dubai for Otago and Harvard faculties. Nick coined the term “yellow flags” to describe risk factors for work loss and developed a guideline on this topic.Gail Kovacs: A lead in KMG Health Partners, a firm providing management and training services, specialised assessments and case management. She sits on the Standards committee of the UK Rehabilitation Council and is an Advisor to their Standards process.Chris Main: Professor of Clinical Psychology (Pain Management) at Keele. In 2005 he was the first psychologist to be elected as an honorary member of the British Pain Society and the first non physical therapist to be invited to join the Editorial Board of Physical Therapy.Gail Sowden: Works as a consultant physiotherapist in Stoke –onTrent PCT and at Keele University. She has been actively involved in several research projects, written three book chapters on vocational rehabilitation, is a member of the Staffordshire Condition Management Programme Steering Committee, has been anexternal advisor to organisations developing return to work interventions.Heather Roche: is a lecturer in Occupational Therapy, at the University of Salford, and consultant with NAble Services. Through her clinical role prior to lecturing and through consultancy she has developed a ‘hands on’ expertise in vocational rehabilitation.Cost: £300 for two daysPosters: Delegates are welcome to display posters.
