This 1 day course is designed for physiotherapists and hydrotherapy/physiotherapy assistants working in the water in community settings. It is particularly designed for rural areas where professional development in aquatics may be limited by inadequate participant numbers. Topics include: physics and physiology of immersion, water exercise supervision and responsibilities, handling the gerontological and musculoskeletal client in the water, exercise progression & equipment variety A range of exercises in standing, vertical suspension, supine and deep water will be taught along with posture correction, verbal cues and ideas for progressive overload . Exercises for range, strength, stability, function and fitness.Conditions/topics discussed will include arthritis, joint replacements, frail aged, falls prevention and balance.
