All independent practitioners have a wealth of clinical expertise and regularly update their clinical knowledge. Listening to clients is an essential skill that, as health practitioners, we all require but may not have had formal training in. We use a wide range of interpersonal skills every day to listen to clients, colleagues, managers and others. This training day is ideal for practitioners wishing to build on these existing skills and maximise their efficacy. With a focus on practical techniques, this enjoyable, inspiring and active day aims to give delegates a variety of helpful listening skills to add to their toolbox. It will explore obstacles that interfere with effective listening and suggest ways of overcoming them.Clare Symons, course speaker, currently works as a Lecturer in Psychodynamic Counselling at the University of Leicester and as a counsellor in independent practice. Prior to this she volunteered for ChildLine where she discovered that she enjoyed listening to people. Her passion for helping others through listening led her to formal counsellor training at Nottingham Counselling Centre followed by an MA in Counselling at the University of Birmingham. She is currently studying for a PhD.Cost: £95 before 28 Aug 2008 £125 after 28 Aug 2008To be held at Thistle East Midlands Airport Hotel -
