The McKenzie Institute International is to offer its educational programme in Egypt- October 2008. The McKenzie Institute International is a Charitable Trust registered in New Zealand, and provides worldwide Courses of instruction in the McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy®, as developed by Robin McKenzie. The Education Programme is a sequential series of courses leading to The McKenzie Institute International Diploma in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy. The Programme commencing with Part A ''The Lumbar Spine'' & Part B''The Cervical and thoracic spine'' –“each course is a four day (28 hour) course consisting of lectures and demonstrations, including the examination and treatment of patients with low back and referred pain. The theoretical aspects and concepts of the McKenzie Method will be presented and discussed. The patient categories of the postural, dysfunction and derangement syndromes will be described in detail. Appropriate treatment plans will be outlined with emphasis on the use of patient Self-treatment procedures. Part A: The Lumbar Spine (28 hours) 18-21 October 2008 Course Objectives:Following attentive participation and completion, this course will provide participants with the knowledge, skills and abilities to:1-Appropriately apply the McKenzie method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy to patients with lumbar spine problems. 2-Distinguish between the McKenzie syndromes (derangement, dysfunction, postural) and other spinal conditions and provide appropriate management regimens for each of the syndromes. 3-Identify when the application of external forces is required for the resolution of symptoms using McKenzie's concept of progression of forces. 4- Assist patients to design and apply the therapeutic processes to achieve management goal. PART B - THE CERVICAL & THORACIC SPINE (28 Hours)Course pre-requisite: Completion of Part A.Course ObjectivesFollowing attentive participation and completion, this course will provide participants with the knowledge, skills and abilities to:1-Appropriately apply the McKenzie method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy to patients with cervical and thoracic spine problems. 2-Distinguish between the McKenzie syndromes (Postural, Dysfunction and Derangement) as applied to the cervical and thoracic spine and provide appropriate treatment regimens for each of the syndromes and their sub-classifications. 3-Identify when the application of external forces or external stabilisation is required for the resolution of symptoms using McKenzie's 'progression of forces' concept. 4- Assist patients to design and apply the therapeutic processes on their own to maintain treatment goals.
