Exercise group for frail elderly

Dear all, I am currently planning an exercise class, mainly aim at fall prevention through balance training and strengthening for the elderly clients (esp the rather frail ones) living in the community. I'll be using the gym in a community complex with only simple setting e.g. some chairs, some handy equipments which I could bring along with.
May I have somebody share with me your experience on conducting groups like this? I'm interested to know more about group therapy of this kind, please kindly e-mail me: caramel2d@yahoo.com
Thank you very much!!

Re: Exercise group for frail elderly

dera caramel,
you have to set a group of the people having 1-same level of mobality 2- probably same disease like parkinson etc.
all you could plan is based on the you assessment.

here are some tips
1- do the exercise with music
2- make it intresting
3- demonstrate the exercise and do it with the group so that they get visual feed bacl
complex exercise may include marching, dancing, throwing ball

I hope this would be of assisstance

Re: Exercise group for frail elderly

You will need a good number of assisstants with you, especially as you are aiming at those with balance and coordination difficulties, as you are one and you will have maybe 5 or more elders, make sure you have enough support to take care of each one. To prevent a fall or injury during your session.
