2nd ACL/MCL injury in 25 years - the journey begins

Posted 15-03-2010 at 09:59 PM by HeatherT

My 1st ever blog so here goes...

I'm on a repeat journey of recovering from an ACL / MCL left knee injury - the 1st time was March 1985 while Heli-skiing & no, it wasn't from jumping from the helicopter ;-) although that would have been a lot more interesting than how it actually happened.
I then had surgery 10 days later and now have a staple on the top of the tib (what good it is doing now I don't know). I was in a bent leg cast from thigh to toes for 6 weeks (yep, those...

I notice that if I scroll back through the various posts on this site for a year or more there are no comments to any of the posts whatsoever.

I'm looking for a site where I can share information with others. This site obviously isn't it.

Anyone know of a good site to share info?

Posted 13-02-2010 at 01:10 PM by bobinuk

Hello all,

I have a colles fracture which had an O.R.I.F. fitted on the 22nd December 2009. I've been out of plaster for three weeks and have been doing various exercises suggested by my physio.

My progress towards having use of my hand again has been quite slow ... perhaps I'm too impatient!

I cannot make a fist.

I cannot move my thumb very much (very dificult picking up small objects).

My hand is curled inwards like holding...

I just want to run

Posted 07-02-2010 at 01:22 PM by dbrennan

Extensor hallucis longus. The name of the tendon that is stopping me from running. I had a shot of cortisone-no help. I stopped running for 3 weeks and eased back into it but the pain has came back. I'm OK to about 5 miles but after that the pain is too much to continue. I've been icing, compression, etc, etc, but doesn't seem to be helping.

To Rest or Not To Rest?

Posted 28-12-2009 at 06:10 PM by umerphysio

Initial recommendations after back injury described a period of bed rest for recovery time. This however, is no longer viewed as beneficial in the healing process. By being inactive the muscles of the back can become weak from inactivity, delaying recovery time. Current recommendations include gentle back stretching activities and continuing with current day to day activities with modifications to alleviate strain on the back region. Starting an early rehabilitation program has been shown to decrease...

Posted 24-12-2009 at 02:39 AM by dancerboy3

Hi im a dancer and for the past 4-6 weeks my left knee has felt really tight. I stretch frequently and just couldnt seem to release the tightness.

Just the other day when i was sitting crossed legged with left over right i heard my left knee crack about 6 times as i lent forward to stretch. It was a similar sound that you would hear when someone cracks your back. I have been iceing it atm but it is extremely sore. Movement is limited.
